“New Dork”

Mar
8

Check out this non-Weird-Al-Yankovic spoof on Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ ‘Empire State of Mind’.   This guy does so many geeky shout-outs I felt the need to watch football and lift weights just to prove to myself I’m not a full geek.

Here’s the words for you to rap with:

Now I’m in the blogosphere,
Now I’m in the twitterverse
Fans get so immersed, But I’m a nerd forever
I’m the new Zuckerberg, And since my website
I been cookin dough like a chef servin killa-bytes
Used to be the basement, Back at my mom’s place
Buildin web traffic so that we could sell an ad space
Make way for the, One man businesses
Bail outs finished with, White collar criminals
New sega genesis, Entrepreneur time
Makin big plans, To dominate the online
Yeah, I’m on YouTube, this is one man
Sharin’ google revenue, With songs on my webcam
Science is the new art, Databases day to day
Geeks spreadin’ sheet smarts, Hustle, make the data pay
I could be in Valleywag plus Geekologie
Tell from my avatar, That I’m most definitely

The New Dork,
Social networks – what dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do
Now you’re the New Dork
This V.C. money is brand new, The geek is now damn cool
Let’s hear it for new dorks, new dorks, new dorks

Catch me up in Techcrunch, Right on the homepage
Hell, I’m on Gizmodo, In a photo bout a phone craze
And Im up in Mashable, weekend trip to New York
Bar pitty, 1oak, parties full of New Dorks
Now I’m pitchin business plans, From the backs of napkans
Micro-lend to Africans, Monetize Kazakastan
Catch me up on linked-in, Dog, C.E.O.
You can see where I be, With the I.P.O.
Now I’m up in skinny jeans, Now a hipster’s lurkin’
Used to be a reject, But now I’m steady jerkin’
Now my glasses mainstream, Now the girlies eyein me
Popular kids copy me, The new swag is irony
Comin’ from the small time, Girls couldn’t find me
Now I scale models, Like I climb on top of Heidi
Start big trends, with tweets that I pass on
You should follow me, cuz I’m friends with Ashton

In a vain attempt to upstage Juice’s return to the interwebs, I’ve scoured the net for, as Jon Stewart would call it, your moment of zen. Enjoy.

Snoop and Martha do Brownies

This photo really does deserve a thousand words, but instead of wasting your time, only three comments:

  1. The powder in Snoop’s bowl is NOT flour.
  2. I want to see this duo on Amazing Race.
  3. Snoop didn’t get the memo – it was supposed to be an ugly sweater party.

P.S. Thanks to my coworker, Jane, for pointing this great moment in history out.

And with that, I’m back from my creative writing hiatus. Welcome back, me!

John Frusciante leaves RHCP

Dec
17

I few nights ago, Jon showed me a link on his phone that said “[John] Frusciante and RHCP part ways.”  Being my favorite band, I was speechless.  Ever since they announced their indefinite hiatus a year ago, there was at least hope they would come back and play a concert in my living room.

Today, Frusciante made an official statement on his blog -

When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.

To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature.  There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.

Sending love and gratitude to you all.

:-)

Ugh.  It appears that John Klinghoffer will be replacing Frusciante, being the back up axe-man on tours.  Klinghoffer also worked with Frusciante on Frusciante’s solo albums.

I can only cross my fingers in hopes they get back together.

Google Owns Me

Nov
1

It’s no wonder Google’s stock is $536 a share. They do almost everything I need.

  • Phone number? Google Voice has that.
  • Blog? Google’s Blogger has thatª.
  • Advertise? Google AdWords.
  • Create revenue? Google AdSense.
  • Collaborative workplace? Google Wave.
  • Want to know where your friends are? Google Latitude.
  • iPhone App that is voice activated to search for anything?  Google Search Mobile App.
  • E-mail client? Gmail.
  • Maps?  Google Maps.
  • Free 411 service?  Goog411 (1-800-GOOG-411)
  • Online Documents? Google Docs.
  • Post videos?  YouTube.
  • Search Engine?  uh….Google.

Just to name a few.

So it’s clear that using anything on the web may have a Google connection.  That’s okay with me.  They have a good reputation, and always inventing something unique and new. All of these applications clearly shows why their stock is worth so much.

I wish there was one place were I could access ALL of this stuff on one page. igoogle.com comes close, but doesn’t do everything I need. If only they started hosting pictures and websites, I think I would be 100% Googled!

Keep up the good work, and you will continue to ‘own’ me.

ª – Okay, so I actually use WordPress, but I have a mirror website to keep getting the blog out there.

Flash Mob

Oct
26

Sorry Adam, don’t get to excited. I’m referring to this kind of ‘flash mob‘.

Oprah had her 24th season……ya know what?  Screw it –

This week, Oprah Winfrey’s mammoth afternoon talk show began its 24th season with a fun “tribute” to viral culture during a Kickoff Party in Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile.” During a large outdoor performance by the Black Eyed Peas, a flash mob consisting of 21,000 of Oprah’s biggest fans broke out in coordinated dance to the music group’s summer smash, ‘I Gotta Feeling.’ … We, along with the mighty O herself, are still trying to figure out how on earth they coordinated all those folks. Video below.

I can’t imagine what the Black Eyes Peas were thinking. At first, they were probably like…this is gonna be a horrible show, no one is dancing. Through the middle you could see Fergie’s thought bubble “damn, they have better moves then I do.”

I tip my hat to you folks.
