Fantasy Basketball – 2009

Nov
14

I joined a fantasy basketball league two weeks into the season.  Oh well, at least I’m in one again.  We have 12 teams, which means your pre-draft decisions have to be about 140 players deep.  I was randomly selected first pick for the league, which in turn, means I pick again at number 24 and 25.  I didn’t like that.  Here are my results:

Fantasy Basketball team 2009

My prediction is that I’ll place 4th or 5th in the league.  I don’t think I have the best players, but they are very good and should go far with their teams.  My first 10 picks are strong, the other 3 are going to be sitting the bench a lot.

LeBron James #1 pick:

  • #23
  • Small Forward
  • Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Height: 6-8
  • Weight: 250
  • Born: Dec 30, 1984 – Akron, Ohio
  • College: None
  • Draft: 2003 – 1st round (1st pick) by the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Choose him first because of his record, leadership and hes only a month younger than me.

Jason Kidd #2 pick:

  • #2
  • Point Guard
  • Dallas Mavericks
  • Height: 6-4
  • Weight: 210
  • Born: Mar 23, 1973 – San Francisco, California
  • College: California
  • Draft: 1994 – 1st round (2nd pick) by the Dallas Mavericks
  • Choose him because he is a quick thinker on the floor and knows how to pass.

Vince Carter #3 pick:Vince Carter - Orlando Magic

  • #15
  • Guard-Forward
  • Orlando Magic
  • Height: 6-6
  • Weight: 220
  • Born: Jan 26, 1977 – Daytona Beach, Florida
  • College: North Carolina
  • Draft: 1998 – 1st round (5th pick) by the Golden State Warriors
  • Choose him because I’ve been following him for 5+ years.  You can say I’m obsessed.  He’s decent, but no superman.

Marcus Camby #4 pick:

  • #23
  • Forward-Center
  • Los Angeles Clippers
  • Height: 6-11
  • Weight: 235
  • Born: Mar 22, 1974 – Hartford, Connecticut
  • College: Massachusetts
  • Draft: 1996 – 1st round (2nd pick) by the Toronto Raptors
  • Choose him because I needed a center early in the draft.  I play to have most rebounds and blocks to score points.
Mehmet Okur #5 pick:
  • #13
  • Center
  • Utah Jazz
  • Height: 6-11
  • Weight: 273
  • Born: May 26, 1979 – Yalova, Turkey
  • College: None
  • Draft: 2001 – 2nd round (9th pick) by the Detroit Pistons
  • Honestly, this pick was an accident.  My Internet connection was in and out and the next thing I know, I drafted him.  Hope he comes through.
Chris Andersen #6 pick:
  • #11
  • Forward-Center
  • Denver Nuggets
  • Height: 6-10
  • Weight: 230
  • Born: Jul 7, 1978 – Long Beach, California
  • College: Blinn College
  • Draft: None
  • NOTE: The NBA stole teams from the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and created a mini league called NBDL (National Basketball Development League) or D-League.  Andersen joined the Fayetteville Patriots (in the D-League), being the first overall selection in the inaugural draft, eventually being the first player to be called up from the D-League and play in the NBA.  Andersen joined the Nuggets.
  • I got a lot of guff from the other people in the league for this pick.  Not sure why.  I picked him for his rebounds and blocks.
Mike Bibby #7 pick:
  • #10
  • Point Guard
  • Atlanta Hawks
  • Height: 6-2
  • Weight: 195
  • Born: May 13, 1978 – Cherry Hill, New Jersey
  • College: Arizona
  • Draft: 1998 – 1st round (2nd pick) by the Vancouver Grizzlies
  • Choose him because of his speed, defense and passing game.
Rasheed Wallace #8 pick:
  • #30
  • Forward-Center
  • Boston Celtics
  • Height: 6-11
  • Weight: 230
  • Born: Sep 17, 1974 – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • College: North Carolina
  • Draft: 1995 – 1st round (4th pick) by the Washington Bullets
  • Choose him because he is a vetern, and leader on the court.
Josh Howard #9 pick:
  • #5
  • Guard-Forward
  • Dallas Mavericks
  • Height: 6-7
  • Weight: 210
  • Born: Apr 28, 1980 – Winston-Salem, North Carolina
  • College: Wake Forest
  • Draft: 2003 – 1st round (29th pick) by the Dallas Mavericks
  • Put on the IR the day after I drafted him.  Out indefinitely – ugh – my only poor pick for first 10 drafted.
T.J. Ford #10 pick:
  • #5
  • Point Guard
  • Indiana Pacers
  • Height: 6-0
  • Weight: 165
  • Born: Mar 24, 1983 – Houston, Texas
  • College: Texas
  • Draft: 2003 – 1st round (8th pick) by the Milwaukee Bucks
  • Picked him for his steals, and great defense.

Al Thornton #11 pick:

  • #12
  • Forward
  • Los Angeles Clippers
  • Height: 6-8
  • Weight: 235
  • Born: Dec 7, 1983 – Perry, Georgia

Yappy Dog – Malfunction

Jul
26

Occasionally, the Soup (hosted by Joel McHale) plays a clip of an ugly dog that is freaking out at who knows what.  Some say the dog is mimicking the way women talk, other says he is on acid.  Either way, this jazz version of him is way better.  Auto-tuned perhaps?

This video goes into the “what the heck did I just watch” category.
